Disney World 36 years later

Disney World Ticket from June 1989 vs April 2025

Ahhhhh! Disney World, the magical theme park where you can meet your favorite Disney characters, ride through your favorite movies and attempt to retain your sanity as you squeeze around huge groups of people and pack into heavily overpriced restaurants. ^_^ I thoroughly enjoyed reliving a childhood experience from when my grandparents took me and my brother back in 1989. This time, My wife, kids and I stayed with my mom and Dale at their timeshare for a week and my mom joined us and the kids at Disney Land. We arrived right when they opened and somehow managed to stay until they closed!

We rode quite a few rides although we spent a fair bit of time in line. I would definitely get the fast pass if we went again. Also, 13 hours in a theme park is a very very big day for young kids. We let Mason have sugar cereal for breakfast instead of our standard bacon and eggs because it was available. That did not serve him well the first few hours of the day. After we got a proper meal in him, he was a happy trooper up until he fell out in the stroller. And then again after that, he was very happy to wait in line with his buzz light year bubble wand.

Maxine, however, had no problem cruising all day. She event pretended to take a nap when she was asked to. Everyone in our party really thoroughly enjoyed eating in the Beast’s Castle. The Beast even greeted us twice during our dinner. I was pretty surprised when they brought out the kid’s dessert which was a tea cup made of white chocolate on a pallet of paint. The kids got to paint he tea cup and then eat it! All in All, I don’t think Disney World could have been a much nicer experience then it was. I really have to thank Zahira for making it happen. She coordinated, illustrated and supported the whole endeavor with ease.

I have to say that my favorite moment was being able to take Maxine on the Space Mountain ride. Of the few things I remember about visiting Disney World in 1989 is that I went on Space Mountain with my Grandpa. When we rode the ride, I sat behind him and with my hands in the air I somehow caught the pack of cigarettes that came out of his front pocket. My Grandpa is long gone now and I don’t smoke but to share that experience with my daughter was pretty special. We were both super excited about the ride and when we left we got to run straight up to the bridge to the castle and watch the fireworks with the rest of our family.
