Ingredients
  1. 2 Cups Half & Half (or Milk)
  2. 8 Eggs
  3. 1/2 Cup Cheddar Cheese
  4. 1/2 Cup Parmesan Cheese
  5. 1/4 Cup Green Onions
  6. 1/4 Cup Crumbled Bacon
  7. 3/4 Cup Spinach
  8. Salt (to taste)
  9. Pepper (to taste)
Instructions
  1. Preheat Oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Fry & Crumble Bacon.
  3. Chop Vegetables.
  4. Shred Cheese.
  5. Beat all ingredients in a mixing bowl.
  6. Grease 9x13 Pyrex cake-pan.
  7. Pour ingredients in to cake-pan.
  8. Bake @ 350 Degrees for 40 minutes (or until done). Poke with a fork or tooth pick to test done-ness. When removing the fork/toothpick there should not be any wet material stuck to it (like testing a cake)

Hiking Grays Peak – Eastern Slope on Saturday

We’re scheduling a hike up the eastern slope of Grays Peak this Saturday, June 20th.

Z and I will be starting up the East Slope trail at 5:am on Saturday.  The recent trip reports suggest the trail is still covered in a fair amount of snow so we plan on bringing snow gear including ski’s, snowboard, poles and snow shoes.  I expect this hike will be of moderate difficulty.  Anyone interested in joining us should meet us Friday night at our house or meet us at the trail head at 05:00 Saturday Morning.

Hey Hey!  June 6th is coming up fast and we’ve finalized all our wedding plans. The details are as follows:

Hotel

Most of the Wedding Party will be staying at Antlers Hilton, Downtown Colorado Springs [Click here for Map] both Friday June 5th and Saturday Night June 6th. Ceremony

The wedding ceremony will be held at the Grand Overlook in Palmer Park at 12:O’Clock Noon. [Click Here for Map] We changed this for the beautiful scenery so the ceremony will be held outside at the Overlook, not at the church.  The Ceremony will be officiated by Zechariah Walden.

If you’re going to show up before noon I suggest you meet us at Lazy Land (map below) rather then the Grand Overlook since we have reserved lazy land and will migrate up to the Overlook for the ceremony at noon.  If you arrive at noon simply drive up to the Grandview Overlook.  The parking is very limited at the Grandview Overlook so if you can comfortably walk a mile or two then please park at Lazy Land where we have reserved and walk to the Grand Overlook with us.

  • 12:00 PM – Ceremony
  • 1:00 PM – Walk the trails to Lazy Land

Reception

The ceremony will be 30 minutes to an hour after which everyone will walk or drive to Lazy Land Area in Palmer Park where the reception will be held until 4:30 PM. [Click here for Map from Grand Overlook to Lazy Land]  Appetizers will be served at 1:00 PM.  Our caterer is going to be on site barbecuing.  Aside from the cupcakes that will be available we’ve asked the caterer to be conscious of the fact a good number of our guests eat a gluten free diet.

  • 1:00 PM – Appetizers Served
  • 2:00 PM – Eat!
  • 3:30 PM – Dance!
  • 4:30 PM – Cleanup
  • 5:00 PM – Depart

Party Bus

At 4:30 PM we’ll clean up Lazy Land and at 5:00 PM a Party Bus will arrive for all who wish to continue the party.  Lazy Land will be shut down at 9:PM so the party bus will pick us up from the main entrance where you will want your car to be when we get dropped off. The Party Bus seats 32 people (all whom must be over 21 years of age due to there being a stocked bar on the bus) and will take all those interested to Garden of the Gods with the Wedding Party for photos, sight seeing and of course drinks.  The Party bus will drop us off at 11:PM.  We’ve estimated that roughly 50 people will share our wedding day with us so the seats on the Party Bus will be first come first serve. If you don’t wish to ride on the Party Bus you are still invited to come to Garden of the Gods and take photos with us, simply follow the bus!

  • 5:00 PM – Pickup at Front Entrance to Palmer Park
  • 5:30 PM – Drink!  Be Merry!
  • 6:00 PM – Pictures @ Garden of the Gods
  • 7:00 PM – More Pictures @ Garden of the Gods
  • 11:00 PM – Dropped Off @ Front Entrance to Palmer Park

Seiki SE39UY04 LCD on my Late 2011 Macbook Pro at 3840×2160 15Hz

It’s slow (at 15Hz refresh rate currently) but I’m enjoying near Ultra High-def resolution on a secondary monitor paired with my Late 2011 Model 17″ Macbook Pro.

Thanks to my friend Chris’ suggestion I bought a Seiki SE39UY04 on Amazon for a steal.

With the help of SwitchResX I’m able to make use of the full 3840×2160 resolution it offers.  Screen Shot 2014-10-09 at 9.10.33 PM

When using the monitor at the super high resolution the mouse cursor is really quite slow but for web development and general system administration it’s extremely useful to have an extra monitor attached to my macbook running 3840 x 2160 resolution.  I’m quite happy however this definitely makes me want a newer Mac that can handle UHD. ^_^

New DD-WRT Firmware for Netgear WNDR3400v2 w/Heartbleed fix

This is an update to my previous post I installed DD-WRT on a Netgear WNDR3400v2.  There’s a new DD-WRT firmware available for the Netgear WNDR3400v2 available over at MyOpenRouter.com.  I haven’t flashed my router with it yet but a friend Dave Compton has and he says it’s smooth sailing.  Below you’ll find a few e-mails we shared back and forth on the topic.  The bottom line here is that if you’re considering using DD-WRT on your WNDR3400v2 you should use the firmware from this post linked above (and below in the email message) instead of from my original post.

I’ve been using the new version for a week or so without any problems.   The major benefit for me is just that I’m running a more up-to-date version which I assume ( hope ) has bug fixes that the earlier version did not.

Aside from that, the only benefit that I see is that the default iptables includes a rule that implements “NAT loopback”.  Previously, I had added a similar rule by hand to accomplish the same thing.  In fact, the ability to do that was my primary reason for installing dd-wrt in the first place.  Given that I already knew how to do this, it’s not too important to me now.  However, if the previous version had had this rule built in, it would have saved me some trouble – and cost me a learning experience.

So far I’ve been using the earlier version since January with no problems.  Every now and then I wonder if using a version of dd-wrt that’s was created by “some guy on the internet” more than a year ago might not be a good idea though. Today I looked and saw the update.

I’d feel better about the binaries if I downloaded the source and built it myself but from what I’ve read that looks like it might be tricky.   But at least this version is much more up-to-date.

The only feature I really desired out of the box was some real NFS support instead of that crap FTP resource they provide to allow access to the USB data store.

the Mary Carter Greenway Trail is great for Rollerblading

I just got done Roller Blading a small part (14 mile around trip) of the Mary Carter Greenway Trail and I’m happy to report that it’s a wonderfully smooth trail on inline skates. In addition to being smooth and mostly free of debris I only recall having to cross traffic once in a six miles.

NON-Technical Hiring Questions I’ve been asked.

In a few recent interviews as a PHP developer applying for LAMP stack contributing developer positions I’ve been asked the following NON-TECHNICAL questions:

If you were given a box of pencils, list 3 things you could do with them that are not their traditional use.

My answer: I’d juggle them, practice my trigger pull (pencil in barrel marking a wall) & play Pick-Up-Stix.

Why do you want this position?

If you could be any street sign, what would you be?

My answer: .. was all over the place. lol. An interstate sign for a left exit! Then I had a lap of judgement and said “A useful one” to which the interviewer responded, “That would be all of them”.  Fine, Not a speed limit sign though.!.

Explain a day in the life of a developer.

Explain your approach to coding.

How do you choose user stories and estimate time.

I’ve really enjoyed some of the interviews I’ve participated in. I’ve also totally bombed at least one of the three I’ve had. lol.  If there is one thing I would stress over everything ( understanding we’re applying for jobs we have the skill set to back up ) is to be positive, inquisitive and engage the hiring staff interviewing you.  As a developer, we’re supposed to be magical sources of logic based creativity. So keep the logic mind on and be magical. ^_^

Props to Comcast who even managed to slide in “Miracles (Daily!)” on their Job Opportunity doc under a “Typical Activities” section. lol.
